This nature loving couple’s dream started with a large bayfront peninsula home site with a tropical feel, neighboring pod of dolphins, and an open, unobstructed view of the Downtown Sarasota skyline.
After consulting the team at MGB Fine Custom Homes, plans were made for a light and playful home to downsize into, with enough bedrooms to accommodate their growing extended family and their grandchildren.
The result – a casual and welcoming cottage that is both storm hardy and environment friendly. Their new home takes advantage of the sub-tropical breeze, views of passing sailboats, the connection to the outdoors, and of course their favorite neighbors – the dolphins.
The main living space is half great-room, half covered porch connected by large disappearing doors, and two bedrooms and baths. The elevated home can be entered from a ground floor foyer with custom elevator. The ground floor has a large studio for the artist-in-residence with views of the bay, and large covered outdoor entertainment space. The fisherman-in-residence regularly catches fresh dinner of snapper, grouper, sheepshead and other local favorites off of the dock.
A separate guest house has two more bedroom suites and a light kitchen, as well as a second laundry room with plenty of storage for beach towels and water toys.
With a Florida native landscape, including lots of edibles, the home and grounds are almost self-sustaining with low utility bills – a light footprint on the land.
